Recollections of the Rev. John Johnson and His Home by Susannah Brooks Johnston
This wonderful autobiography by Susannah Brooks Johnson (b. 1794), wife of 19th-century Methodist circuit rider John Johnson, is available free online in multiple formats. The first two chapters are a wealth of genealogical information and descriptions of the life of the Brooks family in the Revolutionary period and the early 19th century. Susannah was the daughter of Thomas and Susannah Teague Brooks, and while her book is a fascinating memoir in its own right, she also provides first-hand accounts of numerous shared Brooks ancestors and relatives mentioned in our database, as well as vivid descriptions of her early life in Abbeville, SC. This book can also be purchased in a bound format on Amazon.com. It is a must-read for any serious researcher of our Brooks family.
